For example...Santa Claus is a make-up story man... also I read about christmas tree originally was from Pagan (Babylon) and read the history behind it...Nimrod's wife was mourn over her husband's death and she was decorating a tree to remind her of husband. - it is nothing to do with Jesus 's birthday...totally opposite! Also sun-worship idol was celebrated on Dec 25th. (I forgot the name of false god) Why allow good mix with bad things? I understand that some pastors said we don't follow pagan ways but always think of Jesus who was born and died for our sins...blah blah...thats important part of understanding bible.. Does God approves it?? I often wonder...Anyway... Hanukkah is pure original celebration thats bottom line...

Re: A Messianic Hanukkah

Hi Lori!

25 Kislev is Jewish calendar month for Nov-Dec. When I saw my vlog again, I was dissapointed I signed out of the frame. I said that it's a real interesting date-- King Solomon laid the first foundation for the first Temple on 25 Kislev. Hanukkah is celebrated on 25 Kislev-- the same date that God allowed the temple to be restored back to Him.

By all means, GO AHEAD and celebrate Hanukkah! :-) My family and I do not celebrate the tradition Christmas- we recognize that the Messiah was born during Hanukkah. it is not a requirement to celebrate Christmas as it is not found in the Bible at all (Mostly pagan ideas, though). Hanukkah is always on 25 Kislev but our calendar month changes every year so we have to check the internet on what date will it be in our calendar month. Gregorian calendar is different than Hebrew calendar months. :-)

Re: A Messianic Hanukkah

Beautiful! I loved it....I respect Jewish/Judah very much and I know God chose them first as well as guide Christian back to the right GOD.... I missed the part you signed out of the picture...25th of Kislev what month did you say?? Every December you celebrate Hanukkah?? or different month? so interesting about the color blue and white meaning of Hanukkah...Can Christian celebrate Hanukkah? or must follow Christmas tradition?

Happy belated Hanukkah...:D

Re: A Messianic Hanukkah

Most Jewish people feel that Jesus is not the Messiah, They're waiting for one to come-- preferrably by a King (not through a carpenter's wife).

Re: A Messianic Hanukkah

Isaiah already explains the coming of the Messiah in Old Testament. So what's the reason for Jews to deny Chris as the Messiah? Can you explain please?

S. I am a Gentile but do honor Jewish faith and tradition. Happy Hanukkah.

Re: A Messianic Hanukkah

No not new.... that's another keeping up with joneses It's small tree decorating with blue/white hannukah ornaments like the one you saw in FB (that's not actual tree but similiar)

Re: A Messianic Hanukkah

I agree that things have changed over time, no doubt.

As for the shamash, it has always been called the "servant". Those who believe in the Messiah know who the true Servant is. I guess now to teach their children that the shamash, as a servant, is the Messiah.

As for gift giving, I still give out gold coins :-) but gifts, yes, i understand. Purim is really a time when everyone give gifts. It's scripturally-- "That is why rural Jews--those living in villages--observe the fourteenth of the month of Adar as a day of joy and feasting, a day for giving presents to each other. Mordecai recorded these events, and he sent letters to all the Jews throughout the provinces of King Xerxes, near and far, to have them celebrate annually the fourteenth and fifteenth days of the month of Adar..." Esther 9:19-21.

Purim should be a time to give gifts but..arragh, pressure from society makes people feel they need to fix some certain things. Thus the gift giving over Hanukkah instead of Purim.

Have you seen how people decorate their house hanukkah-wise on youtube.com? some websites too? they're making it more festival. "Keeping up with the Joneses" LOL. blown up size of driedels, menorahs, star of david, etc. Even in Israel... :-)

Never heard of hanukkah bushes? new?

Re: A Messianic Hanukkah

Good vlog but things have added since then which defeats the real purpose of Hannukah - same way America does to Christmas.

-middle finger, extra light called shamash served different purpose way before Jesus was born so Messianic changed the symbol to Jesus?

-Giving gifts - In America, though it was traditional to give "gelt" or money coins to children during Hanukkah, in many families this has changed into gifts in order to prevent Jewish children from feeling left out of the Christmas gift giving.

-blue/white lights and even Hannukah bushes.... same as Cmas tree was later added but really Hannukah uses oil and candles to observe.

It's observation holiday remembering historic events and having feast with your loved ones.

Happy Hannukah!
